As part of the national Arbor Week Celebrations, officials from the John Taolo Gaetsewe District visited various schools and the Thusano Care Givers Centre in Seven Miles village. This year’s Arbor Week, themed “Celebrating 30 Years of Freedom: Promoting Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Forest Management,” commemorates the struggle for freedom in South Africa by honouring its heroes and heroines through the symbolic act of planting indigenous trees.

The district’s activities focused on emphasising environmental awareness while celebrating the nation’s historical milestones. A total of 250 trees were donated to seven schools in the district, with additional trees handed over to the Thusano Care Givers Centre and its beneficiaries. The learners from the seven participating schools actively took part in the activities, which involved planting trees on school grounds. The event provided an opportunity for learners to understand the critical role trees play in the environment.
